At American Democracy Watch, our mission is to promote critical thinking, democratic resilience, and structural reform in the face of rising authoritarianism and entrenched oligarchy in the United States.

We confront the increasingly anti-democratic behavior of the current Republican Party not out of partisan loyalty, but from a political science perspective that prioritizes democratic integrity over political branding. The threats we analyze—voter suppression, attacks on institutions, normalization of political violence, and disinformation—are recognized by scholars as clear indicators of democratic backsliding.

But authoritarianism does not arise in a vacuum. It flourishes in conditions of deep inequality, corporate domination, and political systems rigged to benefit the wealthy few. That’s why our mission includes not only resisting authoritarianism, but also advocating for a democratic and economic renewal grounded in populist principles—policies that work for working people, not just elites.

American Democracy Watch stands for accountability, inclusion, and public empowerment. We believe defending democracy requires more than rejecting authoritarianism—it demands building a system that reflects the will and well-being of the many, not the power of the few.
